Derek Underwood Obituary
Derek was a waiter/server at Rick's Boatyard in Omaha, Neb., for the past year.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Stormie and Mike Clark of Council Bluffs; father and stepmother, Jerry and Debra Underwood of St. Joseph; sisters, Alissa and Kassy Underwood, both of Council Bluffs; stepsisters, Stephanie Collings and Christie Amos of St. Joseph; grandparents, Rose Hawkins and Johnny and Sally Green; great-grandmothers, Catherine Rice and Pat Graham; aunts, Dawn Hawkins, Chantel Underwood and Darcy Lammers; uncles, Rick, Tony and Adam Hawkins, Frank Underwood and Derald Lammers; great-uncle, Tom and family; cousins, Alex, Dustin, Dakota, Justin and Levi; nephews, Tyler, Brett and Brayden.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. A funeral service will take place Friday, 1:00 p.m., at Meierhoffer Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Reverend Gene Lee will officiate. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.

Derek you were a great and courageous person. No matter what the situation you always put a smile on my face..and many others as well. Alissa and Kassy I know what it's like first hand to lose a brother. I also know how strong you girls are. Jerry and family,we were saddened to hear of this terrible tragedy. Judging from the condolences, Derek was surely a son, brother,grandson, nephew and friend of which many were proud of and blessed to have shared in his life. May you take great comfort in knowing that . I know Dustin and Alex so enjoyed being with their cousins at Frank's birthday in KC a couple of yrs ago. Jerry and Sally and the rest of the your family I'm so sorry for the loss of Derek. Having lost a child I know the pain you are feeling. The Lord help me during that time and if you will lean on the Him for comfort He will carry you during the days that follow. My thoughts and prayers goes out to the family. Derek and my son (Rusty) graduated together, growing up they hung around each other and always had a good time. Its hard enough to lose a loved one, but even harder to lose a child at such a young age and with a bright future ahead of them. Losing a loved one is the hardest thing to deal with in life. Losing them at such a young age is even harder. Its hard to imagine why lives are taken, but its all a part of Gods plan. I did not know Derek but i am greatly effected by this. We are the same age and at the same place in life. I am deeply sorry for your loss and for the void you feel. I can imagine the family and friends he has left behind feel an immense pain that can never be taken away. Look to God at this time for comfort and strength when you feel so weak, i promise you he will be there for you. I will be praying for all who were effected by this, but just remember that he is now in the presence of our Holy Savior looking down upon us as he is comforted in the arms of the Lord. God bless.
