KAVANAGH, Dermot John Lawrence
1936 – 2015
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Dermot John Lawrence Kavanagh on August 6, 2015 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Joan (nee McAvoy) for 54 years. Loving father of Carol (Kip Hardy), Cathy, Mary, and Tom. Proud Grandpa of Brenna, Darcy, Rowan, Myles, Cavan, Quinn and Wade. Dearly loved brother of Gerald (Yunghee), Terry (Nancy), Michael (Frances), Anne (Bob), Mary, John (Pat), Clare (Jim), and Joe (Martha). Will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dermot was predeceased by his youngest brother, Paul, his parents, Gerald and Mary, his sister-in-law, Maureen Charlebois and her husband Paul, and his brother-in-law, Vince McAvoy. Born and raised in the Beach in Toronto, Dermot loved spending time at the family cottage in Bancroft. He graduated from University of Toronto with a B.A.Sc. (with Honors) in Electrical Engineering in 1960. During his forty year engineering career Dermot developed expertise in telecommunications standards and regulations and enjoyed extensive international travel, especially to Geneva and Paris. A highlight of Dermot's career was participating in the Operating Engineers Training Program (OETP) at Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the exemplary staff at Saint-Vincent Hospital (2nd floor) in Ottawa.
