It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Desmond Joseph McGill, at age 88 on June 25, 2015 in Kingston, ON. He was born in Arnprior, ON on February 3, 1927. Des, led his life to the fullest with passion and a wide variety of interests. He had a love of aviation and airplanes, was a huge fan of "Big Band" music and an avid record collector. He was an accomplished pen and ink illustrator and editorial cartoonist. Not to mention, airplane model builder (from scratch), Des enjoyed politics and current affairs and was a veracious reader. Des, enjoyed a successful career of 32 years with Trans Canada Airlines (TCA) and then continued on with Air Canada (Dorval, QC) until retirement. He was an active member of the "Air Canada Pionairs Association." and enjoyed staying connected to the aviation industry and its people. He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to tease everyone, anytime, anywhere. Des loved to laugh, and was known as a sweetie-pie! He worked hard and played hard with his family, and celebrated every moment of his life. Des, was predeceased by his first wife Geraldine Ann McGill (Mason) of Smith Falls, ON. Together they had six children, Marguerite Stawowski (Calgary, AB), Catherine Graham (deceased), Brian McGill (Calgary, AB), Barbara Robinson (Abbotsford, BC), Joseph McGill (deceased) and Christine McGill (Victoria, BC). As well, grandchildren of Des and Geraldine, Stephanie Robertson (Calgary, AB), two great-granddaughters; Samantha and Sarah Robertson (Calgary, AB), Tylor Robinson (Calgary, AB), Stewart Robinson (Edmonton, AB), Christie Lee Graham (Calgary, AB), Brendan Graham (Calgary, AB) and Aaron Penn (Victoria, BC). Des, is survived by his second wife, Evelyn St. Pierre and his step-daughters Angele St. Pierre (Toronto, ON), Tracey St. Pierre (Toronto, ON) and grandsons Kyle, Luke and Jake Carenza (Toronto, ON). Our family would like to thank Dr. Lee and Dr. Parks for their medical expertise. We would also like to thank the case workers of the CCAC for their home care assistance and Providence Care/St. Mary's Hospital By the Lake for making the last week of Dad's life comfortable. Many, many thanks to Father L. Byrne for his continued spiritual care and guidance to Dad and our family. Dad's faith was his life on earth. Resting at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd. with visitation Monday from 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 30 in St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church (1111 Taylor-Kidd Blvd.) at 10:30 am. Cremation to follow at James Reid Crematorium. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
