Virginia "Dian" Scott, 82, of
Ashton, Maryland, passed away on December 3, 2024. Her final moments were spent peacefully surrounded by her family.
Dian was born on September 2, 1942, in Goose Creek, Texas to Robert St. Clair Scott and Marion Inez (Taylor) Scott. She is survived by her sons Lance Bendit (Cynthia Roldan-Bendit) Todd Bendit, and her six loving grandchildren Bradley, Preston, Lucas, Caitlin, Carleigh and Caroline. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Suzy Parker, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Michael and Paul Scott, and her sister Bobbye Maskulka.
As the daughter of an Army Chaplain, Dian lived all over the United States and the world. She frequently spoke of her time in Germany and Japan.
Dian was an avid ballroom dancer and won the Silver Medal from the Imperial Society of London, qualifying her to teach dancing. She taught for many years at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She settled in
Ashton, Maryland where she was able to enjoy life on a farm for many years. Dian loved animals and bred and raised collies at her Pickwick Kennels, including 27 American Kennel Club Champion Collies. After a successful career as a dog breeder, Dian enjoyed a fulfilling long-term role with Ridgewell's Caterers. However, her most cherished position was with USA Today, where she served as a senior administrator in the design department for many years. She took great pride in being named Employee of the Year and ultimately retired from USA Today in 2011. In her later years, Dian moved to Friends Retirement Community, where she lived for nearly a decade. Always eager to help others, she volunteered her time at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, continuing to give back to her community.
With her quiet, gentle demeanor, Dian had a special gift for bringing joy to others. She dedicated her time to creating happy moments, whether through beautifully wrapped presents, thoughtfully crafted floral arrangements, or personal gifts. Known for her melodious voice, Dian could often be found walking and cheerfully singing, brightening the day wherever she went. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. Although Dian was shy by nature, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at her retirement community.
Dian will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family kindly asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others throughout her life, rather than the sadness of her passing.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Friends Nursing Home, who provided Dian with exceptional care, grace, respect, and kindness during the final years of her life.
Dian will be laid to rest at Norbeck Memorial Park Cemetery, located at16225 Batchellor's Forest Road in Olney Maryland. An end of life and internment ceremony will be held at the memorial park at 1:30pm on Saturday, Jan 18, 2025.
