Diane Burkholder Obituary
She graduated as a Kappa Tau Delta from Adrian College in Michigan in 1959 and went on to begin a career in teaching. She was an avid sports fan and was instrumental in helping establish a young girls track and field program in Detroit, Mich., before moving to California in 1966. There, she resided in Concord for more than 30 years where she taught at Loma Vista Intermediate and Riverview Intermediate. She spent her entire adult life teaching and sharing whatever she could offer to help others. She retired to the community of Rio Vista, where she continued to teach and help others through volunteer programs such as teaching the English language.
She loved her family and friends tremendously and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son, Brad (Anna) Burkholder of Galt, Calif.; and her brother, Lynden (Andrea) Burkholder of Blissfield, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Relmond (Diana) Burkholder and Kevin (Carol) Burkholder.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date, with her final resting place to be Palmyra Township Cemetery in Palmyra, Mich.

I had the honor and privilege of teaching PE with Diane when she transferred to Riverview. She started a track/field day that is still being held. She will be remembered for all her hard work.

Condolences to the family. I had Miss Burkholder at Loma Vista in 1966/68. She made me feel like I wasn't such a klutz! RIP Miss Burkholder.

I wasn't much of an athlete at Loma Vista Intermediate, but Mrs. Burkholder accepted my lack of athletic prowess and acknowledged my willingness to perform at the highest level I personally could achieve.

Ms. Burkholder, you were as kind, as you were a tough PE Teacher. My dad passed away when I was a 7th grader, and you were so sweet to me showing great compassion and caring. When someone ever mentions jumping jacks, or "take a lap", I think of you fondly.You will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences- Ms. Burkholder was my PE teacher at Loma Vista. I still can hear her laugh! She made PE fun.

I remember Ms. Burkholder. She was my PE teacher in 1975 at Loma Vista. She was very nice but kept all of us kids in line.

Ms. Burkholger was my PE teacher at Loma Vista in the early 70's. She was my absolute favorite teacher and I have never forgotten her. She even came to some of our games as a cheerleader at Mt. Diablo. She was always supportive and positive and she never turned us in for smoking in the girls bathroom!
