Diane Lane Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2024.
Diane Lane (nee Charles), 76 passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024. She was born January 16, 1948, in Champaign, Illinois to Edwin and Lois Charles. As a child her family moved to Northridge, California. She graduated from Granada Hills High School and was soon able to fulfill her dream of being a stewardess with TWA.

In 1968 she was introduced to Stuart Lane on a blind date arranged by his sister. They married in January 1969 at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas, Nevada (Elvis was NOT in attendance). Stuart and Diane settled in Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked as a land surveyor and their daughter Wendy and son Matt were born and raised.

In March 1980, the family made a brief detour to Mountain Home, Idaho, where Stuart worked as a crop duster. Diane loved airplanes and enjoyed helping to line up the crop dusters in the fields there. While in Idaho, Diane fulfilled another dream by parachuting out of an airplane.

The family returned to Arizona in 1984 and Diane worked at TRW Title Insurance as her children got older. Diane would work a handful of jobs in her life, but her passion was always her family.

In 1997, another dream was fulfilled for Diane when she and Stuart moved to Kingman, Arizona and began building their dream home on the side of a mountain. Together they built a straw bale home where Diane enjoyed tending her garden and watching the hummingbirds. Most of all, she enjoyed when her children and grandchildren would come to visit.

Diane was preceded in death by her father Edwin Charles and brother Darryl Charles. She is survived by her mother Lois Charles, daughter Wendy Lane, son Matt Lane, brother Ken (Monica) Charles, sister Renee Shelmire; Very beloved grandchildren: Emily (Cary) Mahoney, Hope Bauer, Lily Bauer, Grayce Lane, and Clipper Lane. She is also survived by nephews Scott, Bob, William, and Kail Lane; Legion Anders; Gary and Tom Thomas; Joe Charles; Scott and John Shelmire; and nieces Cassie Lane, Megan Charles, Carly Shelmire, and namesake Tracy Diane Shelmire.

As per Diane's request, no services will be held. Donations in her name may be made to the Gesundheit! Institute, nonprofit organization founded by Patch Adams. https://www.patchadams.org/ She always loved to laugh and make others laugh with her.
