I met Diane at a Peninsula newcomers tea. I had recently moved to Sidney and didn't know anyone here. Everyone went around the group and told a little bit about themselves and why they were there. Diane talked about recently losing her dad and going through a divorce. She was very emotional and seemed vulnerable. I had been diagnosed with ALS and everyone at the tea was talking about wanting to meet active people to go bike riding or walking or other active activities. None of those would work for me. I mentioned I would like someone to go to the pool with and Diane said she would be interested. She was trying to get in shape to have a hip and knee replacement and I was just trying to do whatever I could to keep the movement I had. Well we were quite a pair. We discovered we both loved canasta. Diane had happy memories of playing with her grandmother. We met once a week to play at Small Gods Brewing and discovered we were both very competitive and we became friends. I remember talking to her on WhatsApp when she was in Vienna and telling her when she got home I would make her macaroni and cheese. She was my only friend here and I miss her dearly.

I am so so sad to hear that she died earlier this year. She was a very kind person. And she was my mentor for the PWG ALUMNI

We first met , as cousins, at our maternal grandparents in Austria. We were both teenagers and had a fun and sunny summer on the lake.

Diane and I met in German class and were in the faculty of Business together, at Simon Fraser University. We studied together and enjoyed skiing together. Our friendship lasted nearly 40 years, when she passed. We moved around the world but met up in Vancouver, Toronto, London and New York and we survived the pandemic together, as part of one another“s "bubble." She was a good friend through all those years and is missed, every single day. It is a testament to her loyalty and kindness that she had so many friends that loved her for so many decades. My condolences to her family and to all who will miss her.
