Sidney Richard "Dick" Marshall 1937-2025

Dick Marshall, 88, of Melbourne, Florida, passed quietly in the care of family on Monday, September 1, 2025.

He was born on August 6, 1937 in Indianola, Mississippi, son of Faye Leafy Laws and Vindex Faust Marshall.

Dick lived a full life. He grew up in New Orleans and moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan where he attended high school. After graduation he began working at Michigan Bell. During that time, Dick attended night classes at University of Michigan, eventually earning a Bachelor's degree in Business. He joined the Air Force and served for 6 years. Upon his return home, he became an Administrative Aide to then Michigan Governor, G. Mennen "Soapy" Williams. He was a Michigan delegate for Jimmy Carter at the Democratic Convention in 1976. Dick became a Mason, then a Shriner, and was a member of the Blue Lodge and the Shrine for over 50 years.

He was extremely active in both national and local politics. In Taylor, Michigan, he served on the city council and later, as the Mayor. He retired from Lucent Technologies (formerly Michigan Bell) after 30 years, and moved to Melbourne, Florida with his wife Carol, where he served as president of the Heritage Isle Democratic Club.

Dick became a Commercial Real Estate agent, and remained as such until retiring after 32 years. He was highly respected in the community for his high standard of professionalism and integrity. He was an excellent mentor in business and gave freely of his time to others.

Dick was a man of many interests. He played the saxophone in bands as a young man. He remained an avid music fan; he especially loved live music and often went to see his favorite local groups. He enjoyed playing golf and was a huge football fan, especially of the Detroit Lions. Dick loved cats and lived with many treasured feline companions over the years.

He was preceded in death by his brothers William C. Marshall and Ven Marshall. He is survived by his wife Carol, his daughter Kelli L. Marshall, his son Ron Marshall (Donna), Ron's children Christopher and Katherine, and Katherine's son Jaydon Crawford. He was cherished by many nieces, nephews and extended family.

His family will always remember him as a proud, strong, caring, fun-loving jokester.

Funeral Services will be held at Suntree United Methodist Church. Melbourne, Florida on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 11:00 A.M.
