DEJONG Dirk Baatenburg DeJong, age 95, of Jenison, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, March 25, 2007. He was preceded in death by his dear wife Elizabeth; son-in-law, George Lindsay and one granddaughter, Candice Lindsay. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Helen and James Evenhouse, Henry and Mindy Baatenburg, Carol Lindsay, Joan and Tom Gortsema, Richard Baatenburg, John and Lorel Baatenburg, David and Rene Baatenburg; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and was a long time member of 12th Avenue Christian Reformed Church. He served in the Dutch Navy during WWII. As a janitor for Calvin College from 1954 to 1977, he said, "I went to school everyday for 23 years and never graduated." Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Drive, with Rev. Henry Van Wyk officiating, with a private graveside service at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Right to Life of Michigan. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent on-line at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.
