HNATIUK, Dmytro 1910 2010 It is with deep sadness that the family of Dmytro Hnatiuk announces his passing on February 14, 2010 in his 100th year. Dmytro was born in the Ukraine to Kostantyn and Katherina Hnatiuk and immigrated to Canada at the age of two years. Shortly after arriving in Canada, they moved to the Tarnopol area to begin farming. Dmytro was predeceased by his loving wife Mary in 1999, his parents, his brother William, sisters, Olga and Anne. Dmytro is survived by two sisters, Lena (Mike) Balon and Margaret Meszaros and sister-in-law, Helen Hnatiuk. He will be mourned and forever missed by his children, daughter Adele (Ed) Labach and their children, Daryl (Moira) Labach and Lesia (John) Verones; son Eric (Donna) Hnatiuk and their children, Michael (Jennifer) Hnatiuk and Kevin (Alexandra) Hnatiuk; his nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Dmytro was an active member of many organizations, namely the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Tarnopol where he served as president for many years, member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the United Grain Growers and was a trustee in the Tarnopol School district for many years. He was made an honorary member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in 2002. He supported and gave generously to many charities, namely the Mohyla Institute in Saskatoon, St. Andrews College in Winnipeg, The Canadian Museum in Saskatoon, The Ukrainian Congress, the Shevchenko Foundation of Canada and also the S.U.S. Foundation of Canada. He loved his farm immensely and worked hard to promote its beauty, especially the yard. In 1980 he received the Family Farm Heritage award and was very proud of it. He retired in 1990 and spent his last several years at the Sherbrooke Care Home in Saskatoon. Prayer Service will be held at the Chapel of Kushneryk Family Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 7:30 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Tarnopol, SK on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 10:30 am with Rev. Fr. Roman Kocur officiating. Interment will follow at the Ukrainian Othodox Cemetery, Tarnopol, SK. If friends so wish, donations to the Tarnopol Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery Fund would be graciously accepted by the family.
