Dolores Eggert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 31, 2018.
Dolores "Dee" Philomena Eggert passed away peacefully on October 31, 2018 at Woodside Hospice House in Redwood City following a brief illness. Dee will be remembered for her kindness and compassion, tenacity, and love of family and friends. She was born March 30, 1938, at Stanford Hospital in San Francisco, to Julius and Alice (McClellan) Picchi. Dee grew up in San Leandro, California, moving across the Bay to San Mateo in her teens, where she made her home for over 40 years. While at San Mateo High School, Dee met the love of her life, husband of 58 years, Bill. Following her 1955 graduation Dee attended San Francisco State University, receiving her BA in Education. She enjoyed teaching in the primary grades at St. Charles School in San Carlos. Later, while raising her 3 children, Dee managed a home day care business. Through her life she positively impacted the lives of many children. Dee loved music, singing in several choruses throughout the years, and developed a talent for creative writing. She and Bill took many wonderful trips during their marriage, with highlights being a tour of Italy, a train journey across Canada, family cross country motor home trips, and cruises to Alaska, Puerto Rico, Australia and New Zealand. They especially loved to celebrate special occasions by the ocean at their favorite places in Mendocino, Pacific Grove and Hawaii. Bill and Dee enjoyed an active and happy retirement in Cloverdale's Clover Springs community. Dee cherished her family and she will be sorely missed by her children Janette McAfee (John), Mike Eggert (Janelle) and Laura Foster (Jack), her adored grandchildren, Hannah McAfee, Ryan McAfee, Michael Eggert, Nick Eggert, Lauren Ross (Carson), Shannon Foster and Jackson Foster, her extended family and friends. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 17, at 11:00 am at St. Matthias Church, 1685 Cordilleras Road, Redwood City. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Donations in Dee's memory may be made to Mission Hospice or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
