Dolores Vens Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 3 to Jan. 4, 2007.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Dolores Ann Vens, 67, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2007, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be today from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. The family invites you to join them today for a family led Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Dolores died on Monday, January 1, 2007, at her residence in Bettendorf. She was surrounded by her loving family and died following a courageous battle with cancer.
Dolores Ann Duffy was born February 2, 1939, in Anaconda, Montana, a daughter of James Matthew and Mary Jane (Tidd) Duffy. Dolores graduated from St. Joseph High School, DeWitt, and attended AIC. She was united in marriage to George C. Vens on September 13, 1958, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt, Iowa.
Dolores was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was very proud of her family. She found great comfort and strength throughout her life through her strong faith. She never lost hope during her illness because of her faith. She actually accepted her illness, but none the less fought it with gusto! Because of her faith she was not afraid to die, her only regret was having to leave her family and seeing the pain they had to suffer. She was an inspiration to all of those who knew her and loved her.
She was a talented quilt maker and seamstress. Dolores especially enjoyed her Bible Study Fellowship and her many friends.
Memorials can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes School or to the Iowa Donor Network.
Survivors to honor her memory include her husband, George, Bettendorf; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Leigh and Paul McCarthy, Plano, Texas, Jane Rene and Tom Reese, Geneseo, Illinois, Kathleen Marie and Paul Bieber, Bettendorf, and Linda Jeanne and Kyle Farris, Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Gregory Charles Vens, Bettendorf; and grandchildren, Andrew, Claire, Daniel and Kelly McCarthy, Kelly, Carolyn and Thomas Reese, Noah, Luke and Ellen Bieber, Mallory, Allison and Thomas Farris, and Ben, Lucy and Laura Vens.
Her parents and grandchildren, Abby Bieber and Dustin Vens, and a brother, Robert Duffy, preceded her in death. May they rest in peace.
