Domingo Placencia, Jr.

Feb. 2, 1026- May 18, 2016

“Beauty comes from a life well lived. If you’ve lived well, your smile lines are in the right places, and your frown lines aren’t too bad, what more do you need?”

Domingo “Baga” Placencia, Jr. lived a long, full life. He passed from this world after a brief illness, without much pain, and embraced by his Templeton, CA family. Born and raised in El Paso, TX, Domingo came from a large family. The fragility of life was present for him at a young age, losing two brothers in their infancy and he developed polio at a time when many didn’t survive this disease. He expected no favors and worked to prove himself, even with notable physical limitations. He went with his friends to enlist in the military during WWII but was turned down.

Domingo met and married his best friend, Stella Palos. They settled in Redwood City, CA, where he worked in retail sales. Their two children, Diane and Paul, were the light of their lives. Domingo was devotedly religious, raising his children through the Catholic Church and schools. As often happens in life, we are sidetracked by tragedy. Domingo’s wife had a stroke in 1984 but he was always near to care for her. His son, Paul, passed away in 1985 after a long illness. In 1988 he lost his dear Stella.

Undeterred, he moved to San Diego to be hear his daughter, Diane, son-in-law Ray, and their growing family. This included his grandchildren Cooper, Celia, and Cori. The joy he found in his grandchildren made him feel young again! Their friends became his friends. He followed Diane and her family to the Central Coast in 2003 and lived with them until the very end.

Domingo is survived by his daughter, her family including the spouses of his grandchildren, Chelsey Ford, Ashley Dooley, & Will Wooster, his great-grandchildren Maddox, Ryder and Jaxen, his sister Margaret Montes and her family in El Paso, aunts, many nieces and nephews scattered across the country and the many friends that were quick to his side from childhood to the present. Baga will be remembered for his smile and kindness, his humor and his convictions. A good man has left us and the lives he touched will be forever grateful. A celebration of life will be held on June 18th at 4:00p.m. to be held at the home of his daughter. Please call Di for further details at 805-674-5408.

My name is Rosalyn Perez (Placencia) and I am Domingo's cousin. I didn't get to know my cousin Domingo like I knew his mom and dad but I do remember a time when Domingo came to visit my sister Belia in Sacramento. He was so happy and filled with excitement and joy as he talked about his wonderful vacation with his family in Yellowstone National Park. Each time I go to Yellowstone I think of my cousin and experience I'm sure the same joy he felt in that beautiful national park. He loved his family and appreciated everyone and it showed. I'm so sorry for your family's loss.
