I am sad to hear about Mr. Sgro's passing. Note that I refer to "Mr." Sgro. I was in what was probably the very first class of his teaching career-- first period, American History, September 1958. We were Juniors and he was the new history teacher. He coached our football team. We were blessed to have him attend our fortieth class reunion two years age.

I was saddened to learn that Dom Sgro, who taught me history at Bogota High School, passed away. He was a man of high spirit who truly liked and respected students. Harvey A. Silverglate BHS Class of 1960.

I am very saddened by the untimely passing of Coach Sgro. My prayers are with Mrs. Sgro, Jeff, Maureen and Chris. Coach was a great mentor and teacher. He encouraged me greatly in the classroom and brought the best out of me as a football player. He coached football the old fashioned way where sportsmanship was respected. He encouraged a hard hitting but fair style of play. He helped prepare me for college ball and, more importantly life. I will always remember that we ended with a prayer. I will miss him but remember all the lessons.

Uncle “Don”
He was a pillar of strength that you could draw from just by him walking in the room. He always, selflessly, offered his help, even if it was just to talk. He was the kind of family man that you would say, “I want to be just like him”. He was an influential part of my life, whom I’ve spoken often of to my wife and friends. I’m proud to have known him. “Uncle Don”, as my sisters and I would call him, will always be loved and dearly missed My heart aches, I’ve lost a special person.
