Don Autrey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 11, 2022.
Donny (Don) Edward Autrey passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2022 with family. He was born to Woodrow and Cora Mae Autrey on August 16, 1934 in Argo, TX and spent his childhood, with his younger brother Bobby Gene, in Mt. Pleasant, San Diego, and Fort Worth.
A proud Marine, Don was discharged as a Sergeant in 1955 and married his childhood sweetheart Patsy Caroline Hall in 1956. Happily married for 59 years, they raised two children, Barton Kelly Autrey and Elizabeth Anne Autrey in Dallas, TX. Don graduated from Texas Tech in 1959. He was a born salesman and for 22 years his company serviced the fine dining industry. After retirement in 2000, Patsy and Don relocated to Tyler, TX where they reunited with many life long friends and became devoted members of the First Christian Church, who supported him when Patsy passed in 2016.
In June 2018, Don married his Sunday school classmate, Sandy Dasenbrock. Their marriage significantly enlarged Don's family circle and activities. They enjoyed traveling, dining out, and watching wildlife while sitting on their deck. Don also enjoyed playing golf, flying, and watching football.
Don is survived by his wife, Sandy, his son Bart Autrey (Amy), his daughter Elizabeth Autrey (Michael Adams), stepsons Mike Stroup (Lori) and Craig Stroup (Lesa), grandchildren Kelly Autrey and Ella Adams, step grandchildren Sarah Fuentes (Michael), Sean Stroup, Tygren Stroup, Lauren Stroup, and great granddaughter Elise Fuentes. Don is also survived by Sandy's stepchildren, Jace Dasenbrock (Nona) and family and Ann Leventovich (Walt) and family. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to First Christian Church, Tyler, TX or a charity of one's choosing.

Bart and Liz you may not remember me but I had some wonderful memories of your dad and mother. I have often wondered about both Don and Pasty. As both of my parents Richard (Pat) and Billie Patterson have passed. They meet in Lubbock going to college. They stayed friends even after leaving Lubbock and starting their careers. Patsy and my mother taught school together while the guys went to school. I remember some wonderful times. Bart and Liz I´m so sorry for your loss. Renee Patterson Frizzell.

Don and I served together at the First Christian Church in Tyler during the time that the Finance Committee was reformatted to serve the numerous business activities of the church. During these early times, Don would take on added responsibilities with a smile and keep me calm when plans did not go as we thought they should. I will miss Don so much. He always sought me out at church and greeted me with a big smile; that was important to me and my wife Rosemary.
