Don Chancey Obituary

Don W. Chancey, 64, St. Joseph, Mo., passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at the local hospital.
Don was born Oct. 20, 1943, in St. Joseph, the son of Wesley Lee and Marjorie (Walters) Chancey.
He was a 1961 graduate of Lafayette High School.
Don married Margot J. Lyon on May 29, 1964, in St. Joseph.
Don joined the family business, the Yellow Cab Co., in 1965 and worked in the cab business for 32 years, retiring as managing partner with Bill Mead in 1997.
Mr. Chancey enjoyed working as a realtor for 14 years with Sisson Realtors and then Coldwell Banker, where he worked with his realtor partner and good friend, Toni Stephan.
Don was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Men's Club.
Big Don enjoyed his family and friends, and was very active in his grandchildren's lives.
Preceding him in death was his father, Wesley Lee Chancey of Tarkio, Mo.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Margot Chancey of the home; children, Don Chancey Jr.; Craig Chancey, and wife, Melisa; and Jill Olvera, and husband, Carlos, all of St. Joseph; sisters, Linda Stevens, St. Joseph; and Margie Jo Kendall, Savannah, Mo.; twin brothers, Mike and Steve Chancey, both of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Alex Chancey and Ryan Elizabeth Olvera; mother, Marjorie Chancey-Gilmore, and husband, Clayton, St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Visitation: begins after 9 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Paul United Methodist Church.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your Family. I went to high school with Donnie and Craig and I always remember how Don was always had a smile on his face no matter what kind of trouble we all got into. Again my thoughts and prayers too you all.

I always enjoyed Don.. His laughter, his spirit of fun and play. We had some great times together when I served as his pastor in the 1980s. God be with you Margot and your children during this time of loss
