Don Leitch Obituary

Published by www.News-Herald.com from May 8 to May 9, 2017.
Services for Pastor Don Leitch, 81, of Mentor, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Nottingham Baptist Church, 2921 Bishop Road, Willoughby Hills. The Rev. David Chapman will officiate at the service.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5, 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Church.
Pastor Leitch kept the faith, fought a good fight, and finished his race on earth on Saturday, May 6, 2017 after a battle with cancer. He now sits at the feet of his Savior, Jesus Christ, in whom he placed his faith at the age of 19.
Born March 31, 1936 in East Cleveland, he has lived in Mentor for the past 35 years.
After serving two years in an Army tank battalion in Germany, Don entered seminary and pastored churches for 40 years in New York and Ohio, including the final 20 years at First Baptist Church of Willowick. During his retirement years, he volunteered at a Chinese church in Cleveland Heights and the Faith Baptist Community Center in Cleveland. He was a member of Nottingham Baptist Church in Willoughby Hills.
He waits in heaven for his wife of 59 years, Mary (Dunn) Leitch; children, David B. (Michele) Leitch, Daniel E. (Kathy) Leitch and Deborah C. Leitch; grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Matt, Carissa, Kristi, and Zachary; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lillian (Scheve) Leitch; two grandchildren; and brother, Ronald Leitch.
Final resting place will be in Mentor Cemetery following the service on Friday.
Arrangements entrusted to Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, Willoughby.

Pastor Don & his wife were very good to me in the late '90's, as I was a missionary candidate, & as I sought a Stateside ministry, after deputation ended. His enthusiasm for the Lord & for encouraging his friends always cheered my day. When I think Willowick, I'll remember Don Leitch, & his always being glad that we linked together. The Lord comfort his family & church.

God Bless Pastor Leitch! He was a kind man that we were blessed to know. Our children remember the half stick of gum Pastor would give them after service on Sunday at Willoughby Baptist Church many years ago. Thank you for your kindness and heart warming memories.

Mary and Debbie and to the rest of the family, what a testamony of love Don's life was and will continue to be. You could catch a glimpse of Jesus in his smile. He always had an uplifting sense of humor. After his diagnosis you would never here him say good bye but rather,"If I don't see ya again I will see ya on the otherside." Don, I'll see ya on the other side.

Pastor Leitch will always be remembered by the congregation at First Baptist Church for his kindness, his humor, his caring spirit and most of all his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. He always had a smile and a joke, and yet had compassion for anyone with a problem. Our loss is a great gain for Heaven and he will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. Thoughts and prayers for Mary and the family.

Pastor Leitch was always my favorite youth pastor. I remember fondly having "Singspriation" with him strumming his guitar. He challenged us to live for Christ and impacted so many lives.
