Don Levine

LEVINE _ Don died peacefully, July 30, 2006 at the Louis Brier Home and Hospital. He will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Rachel, and his children Phillip Levine (Karen) of Los Angeles and Ethel Kofsky Levine of Vancouver; his grandchildren Jonathan, David and Mia Levine; and Matthew, Michael and Jordan Kofsky. He will also be missed by his brother Pinie Levine and sister Luba Rutmanovitch of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Don was born in Locisce, Poland in 1914, and survived the Holocaust with his wife Rachel, in Siberia. They immigrated to Winnipeg in 1948 where Don became a leather manufacturer establishing Winnipeg Leather Goods and later JD Textiles. In 1986, Don and Rachel moved to Vancouver to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Not one to shy away from a lively discussion, Don enjoyed political debates with his friends and above all, his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of his many friends with whom he went fishing, swimming and lunching at the VJCC. Don was a member of the Schara Zedek Synagogue, The Vancouver Jewish Community Centre, and the Vancouver Holocaust Centre. Our family would like to thank the staff at the Louis Brier and Michael Boltiansky for the excellent care given to Don.
