Don Scales Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2025.
Don William Scales, 73, passed away on August 5, 2025, in Pacolet, South Carolina. Born on January 22, 1952, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late William Claude Scales and Lorene White Scales.

Don brought joy and laughter wherever he went. Known for his great personality and quick wit, he was often described as the life of the party. His sense of humor and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Whether sharing a story, playing cards with friends or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Don had a way of making every moment memorable.

He had a deep love for his loyal dog, Blu, who was always by his side and brought him great comfort and companionship.

Don is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Dianne Cornett and Susan Sherbert; his daughter, Dee Hammett and her husband Chris Hammett; his grandchildren, Dylan Davis and wife Megan Davis, Devin Hammett and wife Emmie Hammett, and Emily Davis and husband Matthew Davis; and his great-grandchildren Hudson and Harrison Davis, Kaine and Aiden Davis and Marleigh Hammett.

Though he is no longer with us in person, Don's legacy lives on through the laughter he inspired and the memories cherished by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17, 2025, from 04:00 PM to 06:00 PM at Solid Rock Church in the Fellowship Building 1326 Union St., Spartanburg, SC, 29302.

He was a good one. Always loved seeing him in Pacolet on his semi annual bush hogging that what he would say when he would come get a haircut.

Don truly left a mark on every life he touched. I spent several years in his company at East Tennessee State, and while he had his wild and crazy moments, he was always most entertaining with his unexpected witty interjections in any conversation. He actually was a very deep thinking person. I stayed in touch with him for a long time and his proudest moments always revolved around his growing family. He really was a one of a kind special man. My deepest condolences to his entire loving family, especially to my friend Susan.
