Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux Falls.
Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., Friday at Heritage Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a liturgical wake service at 7 p.m.
Don was born in Winner, S.D., Nov. 6, 1924, to Arthur and Ethel (Dreyer) Talcott. He grew up in Witten, S.D., enlisting in the Army in June 1943 through December 1945 serving in the Pacific Theater. During his time in the service he was awarded three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars.
Don was united in marriage to Mary Connot on Dec. 27, 1947, in Winner, S.D. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Don retired in 1991, after a 39-year teaching and coaching career in Hosmer, Armour, and Aberdeen. He was recognized by the SDHSCA for 30 years of service as a coach of junior high and high school students. Throughout his life he enjoyed bowling with family and friends and coaching junior bowlers. He was inducted into the Aberdeen and South Dakota Bowling Halls of Fame.
Family members who will miss his love include his wife, Mary and their four sons, Steve and his wife, Bobbie of Sioux Falls; Randy of Sioux Falls; Gregg and his wife, Kami of Brandon; Chris of Sioux Falls; and grandchildren, Ryan, Jesse, Scott, Chase of Sioux Falls, John of Omaha, Sarah of Moorhead, Jack and Evan of Brandon, and Geneva of Frankfort. Sisters, Jean Califf of Sioux Falls, and Carol Wachendorf of Yankton also survive him. The family is indebted to Janeen Sedok a dedicated and loving caregiver.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sylva, Margaret, Delores, Evelyn and Gene.
