Donald Barby

Donald Barby, 88, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 after a brief illness. A son of the late Wasyl and Paraska (Pryzk) Barby, he was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket.

A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in both the United States Army and the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the National Defense, Marksman Rifle, Expert Carbine and Good Conduct Medals and was a member of the American Legion Post 85.

Donald worked for the former Rosenthal Technik North America Inc., for many years before his retirement in 1984. He also worked at Tessier's General Store and could be found daily with his second family at Woonsocket Auto Salvage where he enjoyed drinking coffee, reading the Woonsocket Call, and greeting customers.

On the weekends he loved to jump in his car and visit with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he adored. A man of few words, he enjoyed being in the presence of others, a good meal, watching the New England Patriots and the simple things in life.

The family would like to thank the staff at Woonsocket Auto Salvage for the hospitality and friendship given to Donald over the past few decades.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharron A. Sheridan and her husband Raymond of Warwick, and Deborah Kisilywicz; seven grandchildren, Donald Glannville, Stanley Kisilywicz, Tarah Kinniburgh, Raymond Sheridan, Erica DeNinno, Joachim Kisilywicz, Christopher Mayberry and many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Michael, Peter, John, Walter and Matthew Barby, Anna Moreau and Mary Duchesneau.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 1st from 10:30-12 noon, followed by a service at 12 noon in the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. Burial in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private.
