Donald BUCHANAN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2004.
BUCHANAN _ Donald Grant Grant Buchanan, beloved friend, husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 after a tragic car accident in which his wife Chris also died. He was 78 years old. Grant was born August 18, 1925. He was raised in Calgary, attending King George and Crescent Heights Schools. At seventeen, he joined the Navy, sweeping for mines on a Corvette out of Halifax. A business degree from the University of Alberta led him to Morton & Hills where he articled and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1952. After spying a beautiful farm girl riding in the Stampede Parade, Grant was introduced to and married Christena Rowe. Together they raised Gary, Guy and Leslie. Many years were spent building the firm of Buchanan, Barry, Miller & French, now Buchanan Barry LLP. Grant was a Calgary Stampede volunteer (Parade Committee), an active participant with the Kinsmen Club, including a term on the National Executive, followed by many years of K-40. He was a member of Earl Grey Golf Course and the Glencoe Club. Grant was a volunteer at the HMCS Tecumseh Naval Museum. Grant was sharp. His keen wit was only surpassed by his skill at the bridge table. He will be missed by friends, family and clients alike. Grant is survived by his sons, Gary (Deborah) and Guy (Christine); and his daughter Leslie (Keith) Moerschfelder. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ginette (Marc) Wyton, Grant and Heather Buchanan and Christopher, Jacob and Rachel Moerschfelder and numerous nieces and nephews. Grant was predeceased by his brother Robert (Buck) Buchanan. A Memorial Service will be held for Grant and Chris on Friday, July 16, at 10:00 a.m. at Living Spirit United Church (formerly Riverview United) (900 - 47 Avenue S.W.). A reception will follow the Service. To forward condolences e-mail [email protected].
