Donald EVANS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 5, 2017.
Donald Gary Evans (Gary), 67 years old, passed away June 4, 2017 after a battle with cancer. Gary was born in 1949 in Syracuse, New York to Donald and Ruby Evans. Gary spent his childhood in Jordan, New York, and graduated from Jordan Elbridge High School in 1968 prior to joining the United States Air Force.

Gary joined the United States Air Force in November 1970 and was assigned to Mather Air Force Base. Between November 1970 and November 1974, Gary was a Material Facilities Specialist, and ended his tenure with the United States Air Force as a Sergeant. He also was active in sports in his squadron playing basketball, for which his 6'3'' stature was an asset, and he also played softball. Gary earned an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force. His awards included The National Defense Service Medal, and The Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

Gary continued to work at Mather Air Force Base after his service in other civilian capacities. In 1980, Gary began working for the Lucky's Distribution Center in Vacaville, California as a warehouse-man. He retired from this work in 2006. During his 25+ years at the Distribution Center, Gary drove forklift, picked groceries, and made many lasting friendships.

In his personal life Gary loved playing golf, watching drag races, and spending time with his family. He was a great husband to his wife, whom was his partner in life and co-adventurer in their many travels along the West Coast. He was a big Syracuse Orangeman fan, and rooted his Orangeman team along every March Madness. Gary was also member of the Wormburners Golf Club and made a yearly trip to Mesquite, Nevada to play golf and have fun with friends. He also had a love of music and karaoke, something that inspires his family and friends to keep singing to his favorite songs and smiling.
Gary also instilled a passion for golf in his son, and a passion for National Hot Rod Association drag racing in his daughter. Gary was also an amazing grandpa to five grand kids. He was the family confidant, mentor, advisor, comedian, protector, instigator of fun, and grantor of endless hugs and kisses.

Gary is survived by his mother Ruby, loving wife Sharee, son David (spouse Kristi, and his grand kids Kylie, Olivia, and Henry), daughter Carol (and grand kids Ryan and Alyssa), brother Greg (and spouse Lori), and sister Susan (and spouse Paul). He was preceded in death by his father.
