Rock Hill, South Carolina -

Donald Raymond Grant Sr., 78, of 1330 India Hook Rd., Rock Hill, SC, died 27 Feb 2025 of complications from Parkinson's disease.

Born in Fort Mill, SC, 21 August 1946, he was the eldest son of the late Clarence Donald and Virginia Lucille Grant. He was a proud graduate of Fort Mill High School ('64) and the University of South Carolina (BA '78). In 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Branyon and they made their home in Columbia, SC, for several years, before moving to Greenville, SC, and remaining there for the next 30 years. Donnie and Rosemary moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2000 and built a home with room for all their children and grandchildren to visit, which was never often enough.

With a social nature and a gift for conversation, Donnie was a natural salesman. He worked in pharmaceutical and vending sales before joining Amerada Hess in 1980. He retired after 29 years at that company in 2009.

He was a deceptively accomplished pool player, competitive tennis player, dedicated runner (jogger), and aspiring golfer. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, kayaking, bicycling, Frisbee, and paddle ball on the beach. He had a keen interest in photography, serving as the "official" photographer at family gatherings for decades. He leaves behind thousands upon thousands of photos for his children and grandchildren to enjoy in perpetuity.

Donnie was very active in politics and twice ran for local office. He served on the Greenville County Planning Commission. He joined Sertoma and Young Republicans. He was an active member in the Baptist Church (Taylors First Baptist and East Cooper Baptist Church), serving as a Deacon. He was also a Gideon and led a BSF Men's group.

Survivors include a son, Don Grant, Jr. (Leslie); daughter, Holly Grant Robinson (Joshua); beloved grandchildren: Lucy and Will Grant, Ephraim, Wendell, Hannah, and John Robinson. He is also survived by a brother, Barry Grant (Linda) and nephew, Jeremy Grant (Lindsay) of Rock Hill, and a host of other extended family and lifelong friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on 22 March 2025 at Philadelphia Methodist Church, Fort Mill, SC.

If you wish, donations can be made in his name to: Michael J. Fox Foundation or The Parkinson's Foundation.

Don was a good friend and a wonderful leader of men to Christ. I met Don thru BSF in Mt Pleasant where he served dutifully as a leader, and I was fortunate to be in his class for a few years. It was always a joy to be in his presence!
He always said we were likely related as he was decended from a large Freeman family near Hendersonville. He doted on his grandchildren often, and loved his family dearly.
Rest in Peace my friend,
