Passed away August 30, 2008, after a short illness. He was born November 12, 1921 in Hillsdale City, MI to Charles and Inez (Hammond) Green. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Wilma Mays and brother Wendell Green. Surviving are two sisters Pat Jones of Ypsilanti, MI and Aletha Tiede of Florida. Additional survivors include his children, Ricky (Connie) Green, and Richard (Carol) Green, both of Pinckney, MI, Roger (Fran) Green of Mio, MI, Darlene (Gerry) Benstead of Grayling, MI, Robert (Janice) Green of Luzerne, MI, Billy (Cynthia) Anders, of Cloudcroft, NM, and Faye (Robert) Hall of Dallas, TX, as well as many grand and great-grandchil-dren. Don had recently lost his loving wife of 18 years Lucille. They met late in life but made each others golden years the happiest he had had. Don had many professions throughout his life. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War; he was an officer on the Ypsilanti and Kentwood Fire departments, as well as a printer, and an Electrician. He stayed active and busy right up until the end, taking care of his wife and home in Louisiana. He was a longtime and active member of the 1st Baptist Church in Baker, LA where he leaves behind many friends. A celebration of his life will be held at Janowiak Funeral home in Ypsilanti with viewing for friends and family from 6-8 p.m. on Friday September 5, and services held at 1 p.m. on Saturday September 6, with a luncheon to immediately follow at the Ypsilanti Baptist Missionary Church at 7180 S. Huron River Dr. in Ypsilanti. Burial will take place the following Monday at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI

My sympathy and prayers go out to Don's family. I never met Don, but corresponded with him via email about his days as a fire fighter in Ypsilanti. He was always so supportive and up beat.
