DONALD KEMP HIPPERSON
August 8, 1928 - July 7, 2015
Donald Kemp Hipperson, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, surrounded by the family he cherished. Don was predeceased by his parents William and Margaret Hipperson and his brother Justice Lloyd Hipperson. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years Nancy; daughter Karen (Russ Marchuk) and their children Michelle (Dave Schmallenberg), Melanie Marchuk (Logan White), Chris Marchuk (Fawn), and Cameron Marchuk (Amanda); son Donald (Dawn) and their children Jaimee (Corey Larson), Kathryn (Chad Bankowski), Greg (Leah) Hipperson; son Doug and his children Mitch (Chelsea) Hipperson and Nick Hipperson; son Gordon (Rhonda) Hipperson and their children Mary, Anna, and Rhys and ten great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by his sister Evelyn Tidholm of Oklahoma City, USA and several nieces and nephews. Don was born and raised in Regina. He attended Strathcona School and Central Collegiate. As a young man, he began his career in the construction business as an apprentice carpenter, later becoming a journeyman carpenter with Bird Construction. In 1952, he took over his father's company Hipperson Construction and Regina Sash and Door. He also took over Hy-Grade Millwork and Winnipeg Paint and Glass, both located in Saskatoon. Several of Regina's landmarks were built by Hipperson Construction: in Regina, the iconic Qu'Appelle Apartments, which have been designated as a heritage building; St. Mary's Anglican Church; the Army and Navy Department Store; and several of Regina's elementary schools. In Saskatoon, the Bessborough Hotel, Saskatoon City Hall, and the University of Saskatchewan's president's residence display some of the city's finest millwork, manufactured by Hy-Grade Millwork of which Don was very proud. Combined, Hipperson Construction and Hy-Grade Millwork have been in the construction industry for over 108 years and spanning four generations, a fact in which Don took great pride. As well, Don was a proud owner and operator of six prominent commercial and multi-residential real estate properties in the city. Running was one of Don's many passions. He was one of the first joggers you could see running down Albert Street and through Wascana Park. When he could no longer run, Don began walking carrying his famous stick which he said he carried to keep the girls away. Don kept meticulous records of his daily jogs and walks in diaries. His jogging and walking combined totalled two trips around the world. Don was a member of the Royal Regina Golf Club for 25 years where he recorded two holes-in-one, and Don and Nancy were Rider season ticket holders for over 60 years. Don led a full and successful life. He was proud of his family, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will miss you. Nancy and her family want to express their deepest gratitude for the compassionate care given Don during his stay on 6F, Regina General Hospital. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK., on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Speers Family Center. A Private family interment will take place. Donations in memory of Donald may be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3337-15th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 1T3 or Hospitals of Regina Foundation, P.O. Box 1697, Regina, SK, S4P 3C6. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit

Nancy, Gord, Rhonda and Family; Keith and I send our deepest love and prayers to you during this time. Keith has likely lots of stories of when he and Don golfed with 'Meathead'(i.e. Graham) at the Regina, but I remember Don as a very 'cool' guy with lots of opinions and he certainly had that 'get'er done' vivaciousness! He left a great legacy and he will certainly be missed! Take Care! Denise & Keith Black

Nancy and Family: So sorry to hear of Don's passing. Earl, especially, has lots of good memories golfing with Don and other members of the foursome over the years at the Royal Regina. As couples, we think of all our dinners together and that wonderful trip to Toronto when the Riders brought home the Grey Cup. We know your whole family is very proud of your husband, Dad and Grandfather.
Sincerely,
Earl and Lyn Stuart

Hi Nancy, sorry to hear of Don passing. He was always a great mentor to me and was the only guy I knew that could see 1 mm off level on a door frame. Although I haven't seen you folks for a while I will always carry the vision old Hawkeye set for me and treasure my time with you both!

Joe and I want to express our deepest sympathies with Don's passing. He always had that twinkle in his eye that I remember and when he became Joe's first client, he gave me my first funny stories to tell about his and Joe's shenanigans. We will miss him.

Withoutquestion,The Hipperson family,Regina,The Riders and friends have lost a true and trusted patriarch. The Hipperson name for generations has been part of the basic fabric that has made Regina and this province what it is today. To his friends he was "Hip or Hipper", loyal, trusted, passionate, dedicated, cheerfula confidant and a fun guy to be with and enjoy a fine glass of Scotch. He will be missed. To Nancy and all of the family we extend our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of a great husband and father. Keith & Peg Quittenbaum
