Donald James Irvine October 14, 1933 December 21, 2009 Don passed away peacefully at home after a brief struggle with cancer. Don is predeceased by his grandparents, parents, uncles and cousin, Ginny. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Mark (Carolyn) and Drew (Bonnie) and family; daughter, Laura Barnaby and her children; sister, Jean Lawless of St. Catharine's, ON; nieces, Sandy and Kathy and family; nephew, Michael and family. Don was born and grew up in Niagara Falls, ON. He attended Carnegie Mellon University where he received his engineering degree and met Nancy. They married on April 19, 1958. Don and Nancy finally settled in Saskatoon in 1968 after brief stays in Wawa, ON and Esterhazy, SK. After many years in the potash industry, Don did some consulting work. After retirement, his on-going labors of love included building Nancy's gazebo and tracing the genealogy of his family, utilizing both technical and creative talents. Don enjoyed life, his family and his friends. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him and will always be remembered for his wonderful dry sense of humor and wit. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 2:00p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St., turn right before the railway crossing). In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre (20 Campus Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 4H4). Arrangements entrusted to Neysa Gee.

My Uncle Don always called me his favorite niece who he never met. My loss! He was such a sweet and witty uncle. I'm kicking myself for not meeting him in person, but I'm grateful for the emails and phone calls that we had.

Nancy, I'll be there for you and I love you!

One piece of Don's legacy that I can appreciate is the marvelous body of genealogy work that he created. My condolences to Nancy, Mark, Drew, and Laura and extended family.
