Donald Jackwerth Obituary

It is said: "circumstances do not make a man, rather they reveal him."

Don died on Oct. 9, 2009 at his home in Camarillo. Don was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (Bone Cancer) in 2002. When he was diagnosed he was given a maximum of 5 years. He lived longer due to his positive attitude, zest for life and his hope for a cure. Don was heroic and courageous every day. He honored life and went through a lot of pain and procedures, whatever it took to live another day.

Don was very charismatic and loved to be surrounded by friends and family sharing good times Don was an accomplished showman, a musician who played piano, guitar, wrote songs and sang beautifully. He loved to play golf and basketball in high school. He was a cyclist and he loved to go hiking, kayaking and boating.

Don was the proud owner of Performance Painting in Ventura County for 30 years. He loved his employees and his customers; they were like family.

Don is survived by his wife of nine years Ruby Oertle. Step-brother Frank Jackwerth (wife Roberta); cousin Sally Roth and her two daughters, Candice Hoff (husband Joe) their two daughters Emma and Chloe; Michele Olsen (husband Kirk) and their three children Lucas, Samuel and Ava.

Our special thanks to all our friends who helped Don, especially our neighbors Sandy and Michael Hoevel and Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association Hospice.

In Don's memory contributions may be made to Multiple Myeloma Bone Cancer Research (www.imbcr.org.) A Celebration of Don's Life will be held from 3 - 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Embassy Suites, Mandalay Beach Resort, Oxnard, California.

Our family has felt a great loss. Our sons, Elijah and Seth felt very close to him and enjoyed those times we were together especially Elijah who shared his love of the guitar. All of us will miss him a great deal. He was one of the really "nice guys". Don never had a bad word for anyone and would be there if you needed him. Our family is there for Ruby and our home will always be open to you.

I had the pleasure of working with Donnie Jackwerth for many years, what I remember most is his invoices, his terrier and always making us girls in the office smile, Don never came in the office without his smile. I'm so sorry for your lost and I just wanted to express that he is no longer here but not forgotten. God Bless us All with Don.

Sincerely,
Cathy Rendon

This obituary about my friend Don is so true. He really was heroic and courageous in his final years. He was always a pleasure to be around and I and his other friends are going to miss him very much. Ruby, I'm leaving tomorrow for my brother-in-law's funeral in Texas and will have to miss the memorial service, but my thoughts and prayers are with you, Sally, and the other family members at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Ray Faulstich

Ruby, I was sorry to hear about your husband. I never met him but he sounds like a wonderful man even if he was half as sweet as you are. How lucky for you to have a great man even if just for 9 years. Miss seeing your sunny face on the tennis courts. Come back anytime.

I have only fond memories of Jackers from when I was a kid. He was always so kind and funny and tolerated my sister and myself running all over his many homes he shared with my Dad Mike Farrell. I remember his beautiful singing and calm voice. Jackers loved that I named my son Jack and we also call him Jackers. God bless you Jackers.
