He graduated from George Washington High School in Denver in 1972 and immediately joined the cast of Up With People. Following his musical tour, Don enrolled at Arizona State University and graduated in 1977. At ASU, Don met the love of his life, Janet Chapin Kriss. Don loved his family, serving the Jewish Community and fishing. He was known all over the country for his service as Executive Director of synagogues in Denver, Tucson, St. Louis and currently the Jacksonville Jewish Center. Recently, Don was honored and qualified as a Fellow in Synagogue Administration.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Kriss. He is survived by his wife, Janet; mother, Ilene Rosen Thompson (James Thompson); sister, Ronda Kriss Manspeaker (Jewell ); brother, Aron Kriss (Sharon); children, Leah Kriss-Ribaudo (John), Joel Kriss; stepsisters, Julie Avirett (Rick), Laurie Thompson Barton (Walter); and brand new grandson, Finley Ribaudo.

Don's funeral will take place on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10 o'clock in the morning in the sanctuary of the Jacksonville Jewish Center, 3662 Crown Point Rd, Jacksonville, Florida, followed by interment at the New Center Cemetery, 43rd and Liberty, Jacksonville, Florida.

Because the advent of Yom Kippur on Tuesday evening ends the observance of Shiva, there will be minyan on Monday evening, September 21st only. It will take place at 6 o'clock in the evening at the Kriss home. Donations in Don's memory may be directed to the Jacksonville Jewish Center. Please note in the memo section of the check (or in the designation area if donating online - click here) that it is intended for the Don Kriss Fund. Don was an instrumental part in helping us sell the seats at the Center. He was such a pleasure to work with, so personable and kind. We were honored to have known him and had the opportunity to spend time with him. He was a big part of the Center and he will be greatly missed.

To Janet and Family, Don was the greatest! I will sorely miss seeing his smiling face and hearing his humor as I enter the front door of the Center on Shabbos, Janet, he said he could never live without you. Now, may G-d give you the strength to live without him. You know you have a wonderful and supportive Center family. And we thank you for the high compliment of staying in our community. Evelyn Peck

Don was a great man who always had kind words to say about me and our family. We will miss his warmth, sense of humor, menchlichkeit, and his dedication to the JJC Community. He did so many wonderful things in the short time that we got to know him. May his memory serve as a blessing - Yehi Zichrono Baruch.
