Donald E. Matteson was born in Morris, Illinois on February 8, 1944 to Gene and Frances Matteson. He met Kathleen Weppler in high school and they married on June 16, 1967. Don attended the University of Illinois in Champagne and graduated with a B.S Degree in Industrial Engineering. On February 16, 1968, their son, Chad Christopher, was born. The following year, Don was drafted by the US Army and served as a Specialist 5 (Engineering) in Ft. Monmouth, NJ where he was honorably discharged in 1971. Don and his family returned to Morris where Don worked for US Steel (Joliet, IL) until 1980. In 1980, the family moved to Kingwood, TX when Don took a position at Hughes Tool in Houston. Their second son, Jonathan Cody, was born on February 26, 1982. Don worked in the oil and gas industry until he retired in December of 2003.

Don loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He also liked camping, hunting and working on cars. While he was a man of few words, he was a tough-minded, fair, honest, dependable and honorable man.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Frances and daughter, Kathryn Louise. He is survived in death by his wife, Kathleen (Weppler), his sons, Chad (Heather) of Columbus, OH and Jonny of Kingwood, TX. He has five grandchildren, Noah, Griffin, Toby, Quinn and Carter.
