Donald Richard McMillin, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by family.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Renate Schutz McMillin; 5 sons, 3 daughters, 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many close friends.
Born and raised in Jennings, LA, he joined the United States Air Force as a young adult. He then moved to Indiana where he became a John Deere Dealer of which he was very passionate. After he retired in 1996 and moved to Venice, FL, he realized retirement was not for him and built a Holiday Inn Express in Gainesville, FL.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Dec. 10, 2016 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 1475 Center Rd, Venice, FL at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Don's name to: Tidewell Hospice, Inc. or to The Provident Fund of Venice Golf and CC, 250 Venice Golf Club Drive, Venice, FL 34292.

this man was a class act. you know a person's character by how they treat people, and he had a smile, a kind or encouraging word for all of us, always. what an attitude! i am so lucky i got to know him, even for a short while, and his generosity, sense of humor and welcoming heart will be forever in my memory. so sorry to see him off to the next plane, where he is surely making new friends and brightening up dark places .peace and love to renate and family. i share your grief.

It has been many many years since I saw Uncle Don. Was really sad to hear of him passing away. I always remember him being happy and smiling all the time. Our prayers go out to the whole family. Wish I could know you all.

We are so sorry for your loss. Mr McMillan was a neighbor and family friend while I was growing up. I still remember visiting their home and was blessed to know his kindness.
