Donald Henry Morrison

Don passed on May 25th at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mildred Morrison. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Kit, with whom he would've celebrated their 43rd anniversary this year and their children Melody, Matthew (Sonja) and Meredith along with "adopted" children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, RJ (Barbara), and his sisters, Carol (David), Kathy (Steve), Elizabeth (Greg), Mary (Jim), Janice and Jeannie (Mike) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

After high school, Don enlisted in the Army in 1973 and was discharged in 1976. He went to J. Sargent Reynolds Community College after he left the service, receiving a degree in Business Administration. Once he moved to New England, he became an Air Traffic Controller starting in 1982 and retiring in 2010. After retirement, he went to work at the Manheim Auto Auction until Covid struck in 2021.

He volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol from 1998 until 2025. He retired as a Major after holding positions such as Aerospace Officer, Squadron Commander, and others. He taught rocketry classes for the Civil Air Patrol as well at the Seekonk Library. He received the Brewer Aerospace Officer Award from the MA Wing in 2018.

Don had many varied interests besides rocketry. He started playing the guitar when he and his wife were in high school. Don was an avid fisherman. He also had a vast collection of model trains with his last layout being in O scale. He also loved bowling and, with the encouragement of our daughter's bowling coach, became a Silver Level Bowling Coach. Don volunteered with the Providence Senate Youth Bowling Program for many years.

A memorial service will be held on what would've been his 70th birthday, August 12th, at Faith Baptist Church in Warwick, RI, at 9am. Burial will be in Virginia at a later date.
