Don was an extraordinary friend and professional. People like him do not come this way often enough. He will be missed so much but he leaves an outstanding legacy via his family, the many lives he touched, and his numerous contributions to American University and other organizations. I extend my deepest sympathy to Margie and the rest of Don's family and friends.

Don was an excellent and extraordinary colleague -- and a joyous friend. His confident and optimistic vision of the university has embraced and enriched the experiences of near-countless thousands of students, faculty and staff over the years. His legacy literally surrounds anyone who sets foot on campus, and will extend for decades to come.
Few are true institution-builders. Don was one. I am grateful to have known and worked with him.
Susan joins me in sending Margie and the whole family condolences from our hearts..

Don's contributions to AU are many and significant. He also helped many other institutions in the region. I enjoyed working closely with him in the 1980s at the Consortium of Universities, and again in the 1990s at the Accokeek Foundation. His contributions there also were significant and lasting. I am very sorry to learn of his death. My condolences to his family.

Margie & Family
I am so sorry that University travel obligations make it impossible for me to attend the visitation or memorial services.
I have worked with Don for over ten years and most recently on the Tenley WCL project. I promised him we would create the most innovative and creative law library in the nation and we will. His vision and passion for this university will never be forgotten.

Don was unquestionably one of the best CFOs ever in higher education. Those of us who study how effective universities are led are all very familiar with Don and his efforts to help create the AU we all see today. Although I was privileged to know and work with him personally only a short time, I still learned a great deal from him.

I grew to know and greatly respect Don's work when I served in a voluntary role on the American University Board of Trustees finance committee, through my work with the alumni association. I was always struck not only by Don's intelligence and vast knowledge of AU, but his patience in clearly explaining many complex things. He was such a warm person - someone who always took a moment to say hello and ask about my kids and business - and someone whom I greatly admired. Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family, as I share both your grief at his passing while celebrating his many contributions to our community.

Margie, I knew Don almost all of my 27 year life at AU and afterwards visited with him, and sometimes you, at NACUBO meetings.Today's facilities and the institution's financial stability present a striking contrast to the deficit of specialized space and annual budget cuts when Don was appointed CFO.

I have known Don's younger brother Larry for over twenty years. Larry spoke often about his brother. When Larry talked about Don, it was with great respect, pride, admiration, and love. Although I never met Don, I know he was a good man. God bless you Don Myers.

Margie - I was shocked to hear the news about Don. I first met Don over 25 years ago, when I was the tax partner at KPMG, AU's auditors at the time. While I haven't worked with Don for more than 10 years, I have spent a fair amount of time with him over that same time span, playing golf with him and Doug. We usually played several times a year, inlcuding as recently as October, when he played as well as I had ever seen him play, despite the obvious discomfort he was in from the treatments. It was on these afternoon outings that I really got to know and appreciate Don. He will be sorely missed by all: family, friends, and his AU family. Be strong, remebering the good times you shared. Steve Kelin
