Donald Nieto, Sr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2023.
Donald Nieto, Sr., 86, of Pawcatuck, CT, passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2023. He was born on October 16, 1937, in New London, CT, to Alexander and Laura Nieto.

Don was a dedicated family man who worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. In his younger years, he was a talented dancer and it was on the dance floor where he met his wonderful wife of 60 years, Kathy. Throughout his life, Don's infectious smile and love for dancing brought joy to his family.

Cherished family memories were made during beach outings, amusement park visits, camping, sledding, and ball games with the children. Don enjoyed various hobbies throughout his lifetime, including bowling, racquetball, and horseshoes. He enjoyed being in his yard, whether he was working on it or spending quality time with family and friends.

Don proudly served in the Army National Guard Reserve, where he demonstrated his commitment and dedication to his country.

Professionally, Don was the long-time owner of Don's Auto Body on Industrial Dr. in Westerly, RI. He proudly worked alongside his son Michael for many years

Don is survived by his beloved wife Kathy Nieto, his children Donald Nieto Jr. (Colleen), Jackie Nieto Laro (Jeffrey Laro), and Sandra Suppa (Louis Suppa), as well as his eight grandchildren Seth Perry, Zachary Perry, Louis Suppa, Nicholas Nieto, Brandon Nieto, Maxwell Laro, Ian Laro, and Samuel Laro. He is also survived by his two great-grandchildren, Kinsley Perry and Ryder Perry. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Laura Nieto, his son Michael Nieto, his brother Alexander "Lucian" Nieto and sisters Helen Evans, Francis Mills, Dorothy Smith, and Elvira "Vera" Kautenburger. He is also survived by his brother Walter Nieto (Carol), cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A celebration of Don's life will be held at his son Don and Colleen's home on Saturday, December 16, at 12pm. The address is 61F Cottage Rd. Oakdale, CT.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

The Dinoto Funeral Home, located at 17 Pearl Street Mystic, CT, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Dick and I send our condolences to Kathy and family. Dick will miss his quick wit, that kept him in stitches. They couldn't wait for Halloween. Every year they provided the neighborhood kids with haunted houses and other scary attractions. I think Donny and Dick were more exited than the kids.

I´m so sorry. What a happy, special man.
Unfortunately, I just was aware today. I, certainly, would have attended the celebration of life for him.
May all of your wonderful memories help you all through this difficult tome.

Horseshoes always remind me of Don and camping.
We always looked forward to going up to CT and sleeping over and especially the family reunions. I remembered being so young and hoping my dad "Uncle Norris" would want to move up there and have his auto service shop in CT instead of LongIsland. My dad and Don got along so great and had so much fun. I LOVE YOU DON and will miss you.
