EDMONTON, Alberta - Born February 5, 1936, in Emmet County, IA, Donald J. Pluth of Edmonton passed away suddenly on January 12, 2004, at the age of 67 years at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife Fern, one daughter Beth (Allan) Hacking, two sons, Jeff and Jerod; three grandchildren, Paige, Donovan and Jill Hacking; his mother, Friedareca Pluth, one brother Gene (Marsha) Pluth and one sister Karen Kocak and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Leonard. A private family graveside service was held on Friday, January 16, 2004 at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. Also, a Memorial Service was held on Friday, January 16, 2004 at Hainstock's Funeral Home. He attained his Ph.D. degree in Soil Science and Forestry Soils from the University of Minnesota and was employed by the University of Alberta at Edmonton as a Professor from 1967 until his retirement in 2001. He continued to assist students towards their Ph.D. degrees until his death. In memory of Don, memorial donations may be made to The Breton Plots Endowment Fund, 214 Ag Forestry Centre, University of Alberta T6G 2P5 or c/o Myrna Snart of Crestwood Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 14304-96 Avenue Edmonton T5N 0C4. Hainstock's Funeral Home, Edmonton, Alberta, was in charge of arrangements and services.
