Donald Reeves Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 13, 2025.
Donald Dale Reeves was born on December 3, 1940 in Washington, DC to Edith Tims and Joe Dennis. After spending a few years in the big city, Donald moved to Lancaster, SC where he lived with his grandparents, Lily and Charlie B. Reeves. While living with his grandparents Donald enjoyed riding and caring for horses. His grandmother liked to say that she provided 12 years of basic training before sending him back to DC to live with his mother.

Throughout his life, Donald held various positions in janitorial and maintenance services. He found his calling later in life as a courier. He enjoyed the freedom of the open highway and travelling to various destination spots in the US and Canada. On his various excursions Donald had a favorite road dog, his wife, Mary E. Reeves (Harris). The two met in 1968 and married (the first time) in 1969. This union produced one child: Donna Elizabeth Reeves in 1970. Those first years of marriage were happy but tumultuous. The couple struggled through however, to provide a home for their child. Finally in 1991, the couple divorced, but soon remarried in December 2003.

Donald lived a full life and had four children total. His son Donald D. Reeves, Jr. and two additional daughters named Sonya Burke (Jackson) who is married to Alan Burke, and Rhonda Brooks (Jefferson) who is married to Michael Brooks. Though he was not present in their lives his girls have formed a loving bond and lifelong friendship.

Donald liked to have fun and look stylishly while being the life of the party. His sense of style and coordination earned him the nickname "Uncle City." It was a moniker that he reveled in. He also enjoyed his Hennessy, laughing, and spending time with his extended family. One of his favorite pastimes was watching cowboy movies and enjoying an afternoon of football when his Dallas Cowboys played.

Donald passed on January 30 @ 6:25 p.m. He was surrounded by family. Donald is preceded in death by his mother Edith Tims, his father Joe Dennis, and a brother Alvin Vaughn (married to Carolyn Vaughn). In addition to his wife and children, Donald leaves behind his brothers Lynn Owens, married to Cynthia Owens; Clyde Owens, married to Barbara Owens; a sister, Gloria Owens, as well as a whole host of nieces, nephews, and first cousins.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday February 20th at the Williamson Pavilion at Hornet's Nest Park 6301 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216 from 1-3.

So thankful for my uncle! They truly say it takes a village to raise children, and I'm honored he was a positive influence in mine. Although when I first met him, he was not my favorite person he truly grows on you with time and turned into someone I counted on seeing at family events and gathering for the holidays. I'm going to miss my road dog. Until next time Love ya UNK #MRWOLF #UNKCITY

Donald used to walk across the street on Reid Avenue and bang on my moms door to get me to plait his rat tail.. and sometimes add a bead to it.. and then ask "You got me straight girl?" I´d say yes Donald and he would be on his way. #GoodOleDays. My deepest condolences to Mary, Donna and all family members..

I met Uncle City through his Neice Sabrina. Uncle City was a joy to share great times with.
