Donald "Rob" Robison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 10 to Aug. 11, 2022.
Donald Glen "Rob" Robison, age 86, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Rob suffered many years of challenges from diminishing health and Lewy Body Dementia.

Rob was born on May 14, 1936, in Norman, OK. He was the second of 3 children born to parents Carmen G. "Pete" and Margaret (Doud) Robison.

Rob grew up in Poteau, OK. He spent his last two years of high school at the Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA) in Claremore, OK. He was a persistent student, a proud officer, and a running back on the OMA football team. After obtaining his associate degree from OMA, Rob went to Oklahoma A&M, later renamed Oklahoma State University. He pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering and played running back on the Oklahoma A&M football team. Unfortunately, he ran out of money in his senior year before completing his degree.

Throughout his life, Rob worked for several companies in the Tulsa area. He delivered papers for the Tulsa World and worked for the United States Department of Transportation with his dad, "Pete", blasting the hills to clear the land for new highways. He later worked for the Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company (Otasco), National Tank Company, and as a manager for the KendallWood Softball Complex and the Tulsa County Parks Department.

Rob joined the Army Reserve in 1956, serving in several capacities, including technician and paratrooper. Here, Rob acquired his love of sky diving, which he continued beyond the military, completing thousands of jumps over many decades.

After completing his service in the Army Reserve, Rob found his true calling for officiating and leadership through the Tulsa County Parks Department. Rob officiated football for fifty years, worked as an umpire for slowpitch/fastpitch softball for thirty-five years, and worked many years as a Basketball Referee. Rob contributed significantly to the success of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), USA, and USSSA as an Umpire Assignor for Broken Arrow Girls Softball (BAGS), Jenks (JGSA), Sapulpa (SGSA), Owasso (OGSA), and many other Oklahoma Clubs. He also worked as an Umpire Coordinator for ASA and many other positions over his lifetime love of sports.

In his free time, Rob loved racing dirt bikes, riding his Honda Motorcycle in town and across country, and skydiving. He also loved the feel of raw wood in his hands as he created and worked on countless woodworking projects.

Rob is predeceased by his parents, Carmen Glen "Pete" and Margaret Elizabeth (Doud) Robison, sister, Carmen Elizabeth (Edwin "Gail") Robertson, and sister-in-law, Sharon Rhoades Mead (Charles M.) Foster. Rob is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Janelle Rhoades Robison; brother Louis Eugene (Alice) Robison; brother-in-law Jerry Lynn (Lauri) Rhoades; and stepson Bradley "Brad" (Renee) Diggs; 5 grandchildren, 7 nephews, and 6 nieces.

A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11:00 am at Christ Church, Episcopal, located at 10901 S. Yale Ave., Tulsa, OK.

The Robison family would like to thank all of the medical professionals from UT Southwest, Methodist Healthcare, USMD, and Faith Presbyterian Hospice that helped Rob and his family navigate and care for his health while he bravely fought his greatest battle against the deadly disease, Lewy Body Dementia.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (https://www.lbda.org/donate/).
