Donald Earl Root was born September 16, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio and passed away March 1, 2018 in Lehigh Acres, Florida. He was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and attended the University of Toledo. He was employed 43 years at Doehler Jarvis, Division of NL Industries, and retired as a sales engineer. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Paragon Blue Lodge (Port Lawrence Lodge) for 70 years. From 1943 - 1945 he served in the US Army in the ETO and in the Pacific Theater and was also a member of the American Legion. He was a former member of Glenwood Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio and upon moving to Lehigh Acres, Florida in 1979, joined Faith Lutheran Church and later Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft Myers.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Findlay Root; daughters, Barbara Eckenroth and Kathleen Pinkstaff; six grandchildren, Marcia Pinstaff, Michelle Termuhlen, Michael (Elizabeth) Pinkstaff, Merideth (Mike) Hamilton, Andrea (Timothy) Cook, and Erin (Aaron) Hartman; great grandchildren,
Mackenzie Hamilton, Max Hamilton, Connor Cook, Clay Cook, Findlay Hartman, Pase Hartman, Delaney Termuhlen, Hunter Termuhlen, Julian Neller, and Nicholas Pinkstaff,

A memorial service will be held at Gateway Lutheran Church, 11381 Gateway Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33913
on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions can be made to Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church, Glenwood Lutheran, 2545 Monroe St, Toledo, OH 43620, and Development Office, Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Ft Myers, FL 33908. Info 239-334-4880.
