Donald Thompson, Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2024.
Donald N. Thompson Sr, 80, of West Virginia, passed away on January 23, 2024, in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was born on April 4, 1943, in southern West Virginia. Donald led a remarkable life, serving his country as a proud sailor in the US Navy and member of the Alabama National Guard. He loved coal mining and followed that passion in mines across WV, TN and AL. After leaving the mining industry he worked as a personnel director, plant manager and many other endeavors. His leadership touched numerous companies including, Jim Walter Resources, Peco Foods and Southfresh Catfish.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Juanita Ragan Thompson, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He was a devoted father to his two sons, Donald Jr. (Brandi), and Stacy (Kim). He took great joy in being a grandfather to five grandchildren, Harrison, Audrey-Ragan & Sarah Madeline (Stacy); Amanda & Alex (Donald). You could always count on a lot of laughter when he was with his grandkids and they will forever remember his beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humor and storytelling. He is also survived by his older brother (Jeff), twin brother (Ronald) and baby sister (Judi). He also leaves behind Kenny Neal (Pam) who was like another son to him.

Donald's character was truly remarkable. He was no saint, but he displayed saint-like qualities, touching the lives of countless people. His circle of friends extended into the thousands, a testament to his warm and compassionate nature.

He was a man of faith, and it brings solace to know that he is now walking in the light with the Lord.

A memorial service to celebrate Donald's life will be held at a later time. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us in honoring his memory. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
