DONALD UNGER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 1 to Feb. 2, 2022.
81, of Twinsburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully January 31, 2022. Don was born December 21, 1940, to the late Owen and Margaret Unger in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a graduate of West Tech High School in Cleveland. Don is survived by his son Neil, daughter-in-law Julie, and grandchildren Caroline and Alec. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Marlene, and brothers Robert and Stanley. He will also be dearly missed by daughter-in-law Julie's extended family whom he spent time with at numerous holidays and birthday parties. As proud grandfather, Don spent many days when his grandkids were young going out to eat at the local drive-ins and Pickle Bill's restaurant, along with trips to Memphis Kiddie Park. As the grandkids grew, he attended nearly all their school activities and sport events. Don's hobbies included model railroading and music. He was a master at developing railroad layouts and finely crafting the miniature buildings and scenery. Don also spent many afternoons entertaining at local nursing homes, playing the piano which was a lifelong passion. Later in life, Don learned to play the recorder and joined the local American Recorder Society chapter. Don provided 33 years of service at Erico in Solon, Ohio. He held positions in manufacturing engineering, packaging, and purchasing to name a few. He was instrumental in creating a walking path in the woods on the property which he enjoyed on his lunch hour. A special thank you to all the nurses, doctors and staff at Hillcrest Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Homecare therapy, who made Don's final days peaceful and comfortable. Services will be held at TABONE KOMOROWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 33650 SOLON RD. SOLON (JUST W. OFF S.O.M. CENTER) on Saturday February 5 with visitation from 11:30am to 1:30 P.M. and Funeral Service at 1:30 P.M. Burial will occur at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate to the American Heart Association in Don's name.: komorowskifuneralhome.com

Dead Neal and Julie, so sorry for your loss, I have known Don from way back in the 50's. I enjoyed the rides in his old Buick limousine. chipping in $.25 each from all the boys for gas, about $.30 a gallon back than. about 6 or more of us would just ride to ride. I met up with Don at the car show at Solon Commons late in 2021. We talked about the good times we had back in the old neighborhood. I also spoke with him about the saving grace of Jesus, that being "Born Again" meaning, receiving Jesus as your savior is your assurance of a place in Heaven. Praying the Lord comfort you and your family at this time of great loss. John

Dear Unger family, I am so sorry for your loss. Don and Marlene had been patients of mine for the last 5 years.. I was very saddened to hear he passed. He was such a very sweet man every time we talked. May he rest in peace with Marlene by his side and I hope your family finds strength to heal. God bless
