Donald Walsh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2015.

Donald Raymond ‘Scotty’ Walsh passed away on August 15, 2015 in Tampa, Florida. He was 78 years old and lived every year joyfully. He always had a smile to give and a song in his heart. He was born on September 16, 1936 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of John Raymond and Mary Catherine (Polar) Walsh who preceded him in death. He married Marie Lopez in 1964 in Socorro, New Mexico. They signed on together and coupled their fate; with no map to guide them, they steered their own course. They had two children and began their voyage. He graduated from Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin in 1954. He attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana prior to proudly serving his country as a United States Marine. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps, he graduated from the College of St. Joseph in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1964. The same year, he began his professional career at IBM Corporation, where he held several management and executive positions until his retirement in 1987. He was an executive at Brite Voice Systems (Intervoice/Convergys) before retiring from Avatech Solutions as CEO in 2007. He is survived by Marie, his wife of 50 years, his son Timothy Jude Walsh (Michael Sierak) and Shannon Walsh Rivers (David Rivers); his grandchildren Breann Marie Walsh, Ethan Jude Walsh, (their mother Kayleen Walsh), and Sebastian James Rivers. He is also survived by his siblings Rita Walsh Cavanagh (James Cavanagh II), Dr. Ursula Walsh (John Halloran), Patrick Walsh (Jo Walsh), Katy Walsh Stadola, and Anne Walsh Kelly (Robert Kelly) as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he adored. Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church located at 5225 N. Himes Ave., Tampa, FL 33614. A reception celebrating his life will follow at the Irish pub, Four Green Fields, located at 205 W. Platt St, Tampa FL 33606. A block of rooms has been arranged under the name of ‘Walsh’ at the Renaissance Tampa International Plaza Hotel. The phone number is (813) 877-9200.

Internment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the fall. The family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers ?http://giftfunds.stjude.org/Scottywalsh

I thought he was a super guy at Campion and always had a positive attitude.

This news, though late, is very upsetting to me. Don was a good friend when we attended Campion together in the early '50s. His positive demeanor always had an affect on me along with his every day enthusiasm. I always looked forward to seeing his smiling face on a daily basis. I never saw Don again after that Sophomore year, but so many times during my life I thought of him and wondered how life had treated him. It sounds as if life was very kind to him. That makes me very pleased. My heartfelt condolences, though late, to the family. So sorry! He was one special kind of guy.
