Donald Wrege Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 6 to Aug. 9, 2023.
Boulder - Donald Robert Wrege, age 69, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023, in Boulder, Colorado. Don was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Robert and Patricia Wrege on February 6, 1954. He was a graduate of Waggener High School (senior class president) and graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University.

Don spent his professional career as a multimedia producer, with special expertise in filmmaking, multimedia presentations, website design and project management. He leaves behind a wide network of former business associates and friends who thought the world of him.

Don was a musical prodigy from a very young age, and he loved performing on guitar or keyboards -- solo or in a band, recreational or professional -- throughout his life. Two of his music videos appeared on the MTV television network in its early days. Also notable were his numerous parody song performances on Denver radio broadcasts.

Just for a lark, in 2002 Don developed a routine as a spot-on Ozzy Osbourne impersonator. As such, he made several appearances on national television talk shows, local television commercials and at impersonator trade shows. He later wrote a published book about his experiences.

Don was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his mother, Pat Wrege, who still lives in Louisville, Kentucky; his two brothers, Rodger Wrege (Debbie Wrege) and Reed Wrege (Robbie Wrege); his nephew Michael Wrege, three nieces, Sarah Wrege Sehr, Ann Wrege Ferebee and Susan Wrege Warren, and seven grand-nephews and -nieces.

Memorial services celebrating Don's life have been arranged by several different groups of his friends and former business associates. A private service also is planned by his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Don put together a who's who of the Multi Media world for a show he did with his band 'Zero for Conduct'... I think that was the name.....the band performed behind a screen made of scrim [see through material] that images were projected on and the band could be seen through the scrim......this was sometime in 1987-88 era and the show was put on at multiple venues in the Hollywood area.......it was a labor of love and the task of a Ring Master at a 3 ring Circus......Don handled it like the Professional he was and made sure every one got credit for everything they did........What a Guy........

RIP, Don Wrege, my friend and former neighbor; he called me Lora Next Dora . Glad his "journey" battling leukemia is over. He spoke of Peace as he faced his mortality. What a character! who I will miss and remember with fondness. Apologies for this late post, as I only learned of his passing today. Photo of the last time I got to hang out with (Don) Wrege - Derby Day (May 6, 2023).

I will always remember the kindness that Don showed to my German nephews in playing some music and having some fun. He was also instrumental (literally) in a fun song mash up with another friend Ed also sadly gone too soon in the lead up to my wedding. Irreverent and funny, I will watch Glorp! again soon.
