Donna Butler Obituary

Donna J. Butler
December 11, 1933 - October 6, 2022
Overland Park, Kansas - Donna J. (Stigall) Butler of Overland Park, KS, passed away October 6, 2022 at Menorah Medical Center. She was 88. Visitation will be held at Maple Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 11th at 12:30 PM, followed by funeral and graveside services at 2 PM.
Donna was born on December 11, 1933 at her home in the Argentine District of Kansas City, Kansas. The youngest of three children, she was a graduate of Argentine High School, Class of 1951, where she was active in chorus, journalism, pep club, and Youth For Christ, which is where she met her future husband, Jack Butler. Gathering with her friends each year for her high school reunion brought her immense joy.
Donna married Jack Leroy Butler in the spring of 1953. While Jack served in the Navy, the young couple lived in Seattle and San Diego before settling back in Kansas City, where they raised their three children.
During her career, Donna served as an employee of State Farm, Weber Paper, Russell Florist (her all-time favorite job) and Merriam Volkswagen, before landing at Midwest Research Institute, where she worked for 30 years, receiving numerous accolades, including the President's Award for outstanding achievement.
Donna's most prized possession was her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a past member of Maple Hill Baptist and First Baptist Church of Shawnee, and current member of Blue Valley Baptist. Throughout her life, she dedicated her time and talents to both her church community and ministry groups, serving as a Sunday School teacher, piano player, and volunteer for Women's Missionary Union. The impact Donna's testimony had on all those around her is her greatest legacy.
She was an avid traveler, collector, and most of all, a Jayhawk fan to the end.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, James Elmer Stigall and Opal Pearl (Riggs) Stigall; her husband, Jack Butler; and her siblings, Juanita Hale and Vernon Stigall.
She is survived by her three children: son Bob (Ann); daughter Robin (Van); son Randall (Ruth); and honorary daughter Lynda Randle and family (Michael, Patience, and Joy); grandchildren Kim, Jessica, Nicole, Caleb, Emily, Erin and Brooke; great-grandchildren Jackson, Henry, Bailey, Brady, Dagny, Levon, and Ansley; and great-great-grandson William.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the warm, caring ICU nurses at Menorah Medical Center -- Annie, Sarah, Katie, Brinlie, Meghan, Amber, Patrick, Brett, and Heidi -- for carefully watching over Mom.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrance donations to City Union Mission, 1100 E 11th St., Kansas City, MO 64106. Leave online condolences at: www.maplehillfuneralhome.com.

Heartfelt condolences to the family. I never met Mrs. Butler, but I heard wonderful stories about her from her daughter in law, Ruth.

To Donna's children and family,
I worked with your mom during her 30 years at Midwest Research Institute. She was a quiet professional who contributed greatly to the organization in ways far beyond the boundaries of her job. Her smile, calmness and dedication helped make MRI a great place to work. I was privileged to know her.
