Donna Cook Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2025.
Donna Krute Cook, 74, passed away on July 6, 2025, in Sugar Land, TX. Donna brought warmth, laughter, and an open heart to every chapter of her life.

She began her professional journey selling ads on matchbook covers-an unassuming start that quickly blossomed into a successful career in the food industry. With natural charisma and a deep knowledge of hospitality, Donna rose to become a top salesperson at both Kraft Food Services and Ben E. Keith. Her passion for great restaurants and genuine interest in others made her an invaluable partner to her clients-and a dear friend to many.

In the next chapter of her life, Donna merged her business sense with her love of people and good food by co-founding Live Oak Grill in Sugar Land with Bob Donnelly. More than just a restaurant, it became a beloved community gathering spot, where Donna's warm greetings and heartfelt conversations made everyone feel welcome. Her presence helped shape the soul of the place.

Donna's vibrant personality extended beyond her work. She had a sharp sense of humor, a laugh that could light up any room and she found joy in simple pleasures-spending time at the beach, especially in Port Aransas; drinking wine, listening to Blake Shelton and Dr. Hook music; and traveling anywhere the sun was shining.

She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Susan Krute Swift, and brother-in-law, Dick Swift. She also leaves behind her two adored cats, Morgan and Lacy. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Pat Krute.

Donna's legacy lives on in the many friendships she nurtured and the joy she brought into so many lives. May her memory bring comfort and laughter to all who knew and loved her.

I met Donna through working at Live Oak Grill. She gave me my first job at just 16 years old. She taught me patience, organization, people skills, and most importantly the most important questions to ask someone when they´re ordering at her food counter, "Would you like your gravy on top or on the side?" or "Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and mustard are okay on your burger?" And yes, you had to say it in that exact order. Her giving me a chance to work for her forever changed and shaped my life. I am forever grateful for her and she will be deeply missed by many!

I met Donna through my daughter, Glenn Taggart, who lived in Sugar Land for many years. We dined and visited Live Oaks and Donna on our various trips to visit my daughter. Donna was a very special person. I liked her immensely and was very heartsick to hear about her passing.
