Donna Kirkpatrick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 3, 2012.
Kirkpatrick (Knight), Donna Lou "Pretzel" Age 84 of Bloomington, passed away peacefully Wednesday May 16, 2012. Donna was a quiet woman who's well chosen words spoke volumes and actions spoke louder than words. She will be remembered for her patient and faithful devotion to her husband, Melvin, through their nearly 61 years of marriage with whom she had Tom, Susan, and John. Donna enjoyed travel throughout her life, especially visits to England. Donna always came to the aid of friends and family with the right thing to do or say. She was the calm and steadying presence for all who knew her. She enriched her life with the arts, both fine and practical, and was involved with the earliest days of the Bloomington Civic Theater. Donna Lou Knight was born the 18th of April, 1928; the eighth of 14 children of Irving and Bernice Knight in Chamberlin, South Dakota. She grew up near Gann Valley, in Buffalo County, South Dakota. She attended South Dakota State and the University of Minnesota eventually getting a B.A. in Education. Donna worked for the City of Bloomington for years as well as the Rosemount and Bloomington school districts and retired as an employee of Hennepin County. She is preceded in death by her parents and seven of her siblings. She is survived by her husband Mel, her children Tom (Melody), Susan Beth (Malcolm) Batt, and John (Cindy), seven grandchildren, six of her brothers and sisters, and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Cremation Society in Edina, 7110 France. Ave. So. on the Monday, 11th of June at 2pm.

Donna Lou was my big sister and a buddy from early on. When we were in high school we lived
in "town" in a girls dormitory. I so clearly remember her encouraging me and teaching me cheers
to become cheerleaders for our sports teams.
She was like that, always willing to help someone.
As we grew up, raised our families and created our own life stories, Donna would drop me a quick
note, pick up the phone or unexpectedly show up with tales of the latest adventure they were
on.
She was like that-- always ready to share a story.
I will deeply miss our lifelong bond and her gentle presence in this world.
Love to you all~

I am so sorry for your loss. Pretzel was a calm, patient and caring presence in our lives throughout the many years of friendship with my mom and dad. She was able to show others how to enjoy life and have fun in her own quiet way. I will always remember her with love.
