Donna Sue Musick, 69, of Bluewell, West Virginia, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, Dec. 31st, 2021. She was born in Bluefield on Dec. 23rd 1952 and went to Rocky Gap High School in Virginia. Donna was married to Roy Clayton (P-Nut) Musick Jr. of Bramwell, West Virginia.
Always the life of the party, Donna was loved by many. Known for her fiery personality, loud mouth, and boisterous laugh, she brought joy to every situation. Donna, as the star of the show, always had quick-witted one-liners to share to those who could take her on.
She worked at Kroger in Bluewell for 11 years. She was the kind of boss that you knew you better listen to and follow their lead, and had the most fun working alongside. There, Donna could be seen dancing on grocery belts dressed as a cave woman for Halloween, leading massive Easter Egg Hunts, or organizing a 9/11 memorial service. She always greeted and knew many customers by name.
Donna was an avid game-show fan who kept her brain active by watching Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, Chain Reaction and many others. While she never would have won at Jeopardy, she reminded her family that they wouldn’t either because they “didn’t put it in the form of a question.” The Game Show Network, Food Network, HGTV, and QVC should expect a slight ratings dip.
Donna made and decorated cakes for a long time. Everything from Superman and Ninja Turtles to 16-tier wedding cakes with fountains. She was a kitchen-gadget connoisseur and amateur aerial photographer. She loved Celine Dion and got to see her perform in Las Vegas, and would re-watch her favorite movies, Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing, and Gone with the Wind. She did not like movies about aliens.
One of her special talents was writing poems. They always rhymed and she could come up with one that was perfect for any occasion, almost on the spot. Christmas present reveals, birthday cards, events, roasting family and friends… none were complete without a special poem by Donna Sue.
Around her family and friends, Donna was their strongest supporter and confidant. She cheered at soccer games, cheerleading events, softball games, band concerts, and track meets. Donna loved to share about her grandbabies, even though they aren’t babies anymore. Her two daughters had the wildest and craziest mom around. She facilitated and led water battles around the house, and food fights at get-togethers. Donna liked to say that the Lord blessed her with two daughters who inherited her smart mouth.
Donna’s friends loved her and referred to her as “Crazy Donna” because of her antics and sense of humor. If you were with Donna, you were having a good time no matter what. She enjoyed chatting with everyone on the phone and regularly called to check on those she loved.
She held nothing back if you needed reprimanded. Donna had a way of telling you what you were doing was stupid while making sure you knew she loved you anyway. Her cane was a constant threat if you got out of line, had a smart mouth, or were generally getting on her nerves.
Donna was hard-working and tough. She helped raise her brother and sisters and knew the meaning of earning a living. She was always moving and doing something. Later on, when she couldn’t get up and do as much, she supervised and instructed everyone else on what needed to get done and how to do it.
Those who knew Donna were blessed by her generosity. She gave when she didn’t have, shared her time and energy without hesitation, and let loose an endless river of love and support to those around her. Whether spaghetti dinners for neighbors, gift baskets for friends in the hospital, or errands for those in need, you could count on Donna to know what you needed even before you did. She couldn’t go shopping without buying something for someone or picking up a “purprise” for one of the many kids she loved. Donna faced many challenges in life but took every one head-on. No matter what came her way, she chose joy and moved forward. She was quick to remind you that you were blessed, not lucky.
Donna was married to Roy Musick for 43 years and they were deeply in love. They did most everything together, minus the hunting and fishing. They supported one another in every way and had a good time in the regular every day and all the big adventures. They liked to travel and take rides through the countryside.
Donna is preceded in death by her mother Peggy Sargent and two brothers, Curtis and Russel Dale Lambert, as well as many dearly loved friends and relatives.
She is survived by her loving husband, Roy Clayton Musick Jr. or Bluewell, WV. Her daughters Tonia Long (Rick Long) and Ashley Musick all of Lakeland, FL. She was adored by her two grandchildren, Jennifer and Hunter Long. Sisters include Jody (Randall) Morehead of Hollybrook, VA, and Kimberly (Chris Frymark) of Goldsboro Maryland. Brothers include Kenny (Sally) Lambert of Rocky Gap, VA and Bo (Caroline) Lambert of Bastain, VA. There are so many other family and friends who loved and knew Donna and who will miss her deeply.
A memorial service will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV on Wednesday January 5, 2022 at 11am. Friends are invited for visitation at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital is encouraged.

I will miss Donna! We were friends from way back in our working days at Ramada. With her go getter personality Keith and I quickly became close friends with her and P-Nut and spent many evenings hanging out at their home! Donna was my Maid of Honor at mine and Keith’s wedding and she made my baby shower cake with my first child. She was so talented and could do anything. As life continued and got busier I would just see Donna occasionally when I would run into her in a store until I became friends with her sister-in-law, Cissy, not knowing they were related. Then every function after that we all got together, and yes Donna kept us laughing! You will be missed my sweet friend. You are now in a new body where you can be your spunky self again. Say hi to Keith for me and I’ll see you both again one day!! ❤

She would’ve loved her obituary, lively, funny, and smart, just like her! (I am swiping the sentence about alien movies for my own announcement.) My memories of her are spiced with so much laughter, so many commonalities of parenting and having husbands who were dear friends even before us. Regrets, too, of not spending more time with her. She may not be here physically but she remains.
Wishing her family condolences doesn’t seem strong enough. Instead, maybe “Congratulations” or “Hallelujah,” or Fly high, girl, we’ll all catch you later.”
