Donna ROSS Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen from Jan. 30 to Jan. 31, 2012.
ROSS, Donna E. PhD
(nee Holmes)
1939-2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donna on Saturday, January 28, 2012 after a long and courageous struggle with PSP. Beloved wife and best friend of Alan. Loving Mom to Andrea (Ian Williamson) and Sandy (Kelly). Dear grandma to Stuart and Iain Robertson, Harley, Maisie and Elsie Ross. Predeceased by her brother Jose Holmes. She and her quiet but fun loving spirit will be greatly missed by nephews Jose and Russell Holmes, their families and a host of friends and colleagues. Donna taught for many years with the Ottawa and Carleton Boards of Education. She was the ultimate professional teacher who was profoundly concerned with every child and inspired so many. She loved the outdoors, summer and winter at the cottage and chalet or travelling with family and friends. She was respected by everyone who had the privilege to know her. We would also like to acknowledge the kindness and support of our many friends through these difficult times. The family also thanks the staff at Garden Terrace for their kind and dedicated care and support to Donna during her time in residence. Their kindness, help and concern for her well-being was so appreciated. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore & Baseline Road) on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. In remembrance of Donna, contributions to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, Parkinson's (PSP) Research would be appreciated. Tributes, donations and condolences may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com

Dear Sandy & Family

As you know, both you and your mom taught me at Greenbank MS. Dr Ross is one of the reasons I became a teacher myself - and am now completing my doctorate in Special Education. She was a wonderful teacher and leader. My thoughts are with you - Lots of love from London.

Dear Alan and Family,
I met Donna many years ago when I was a young teacher with the Carleton Board of Education. She was always ready to share her knowledge and expertise on a variety of special education topics with anyone who needed her help. No question was too silly for her to answer and she treated everyone she met with compassion and respect.
Her warm personality and infectious laugh will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Donna was a wonderful next door neighbour when we moved into our house. She was welcoming and embraced our baby daughter and son (to come). We were the new generation in our neighbourhood and she did her best to make us feel at home. We are saddened to hear of her death and hope the grief everyone feels today will soon be replaced with many happy memories of better times. Our love and condolences to Alan, Sandy, Kelly, Harley, Maisie and Elsie.
