Donna Dee Sawatzky

Donna D. (Zevnik) Sawatzky was born December 15, 1946 to Robert and Dorothy (Robertson) Zevnik in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She passed away December 13, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Donna graduated from the original Putnam City High School in 1965. She was a Certified AIDS Educator for the State of Oklahoma. She was a Litigation Coordinator for ACLU of Oklahoma. She was founder and owner of Otherwhere Arts, Author and illustrator of "That Place – Otherwhere", also authored "At Our House" column for PC-NW news. Donna designed stage sets for Miss Warr Acres Pageant for 17 years. She was a member and Treasurer of Board of Directors for ACLU of OK for over 10 years. She was a child welfare advocate for Oklahoma State Department of Human Services; coordinator of AIDS Clinic Triangle Association; Founder and Director of Circle of Friends with Arachnoiditis World Wide Web Chronic Pain support group. She was named Honorary Mayor of Warr Acres and also Super Citizen. She received many accolades throughout the years including the State of Oklahoma Legislative Commendation for Child Advocacy; Oklahoma Newspaper Column of the Month by the Oklahoma Press Association among many. She was listed in the Who's Who of American Women; South & Southwest; American Law; Finance & Industry; in America; in the World; in Leadership and Achievement in America and was named in the 2000 Notable American Woman. Her hobbies included sewing, doll making and other various art forms. Her most treasured time was spent with her grandchildren. Donna is survived by her husband, Kenneth; children, Brian Sawatzky, Kaira Owens and husband Neal of Piedmont; grandchildren, Alex and his wife Jacque, Zachary, Blake and Cameron Owens; two great-granddaughters, Laken and Lilly.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow.
