Dora Ferrell Lee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 10, 2025.
Dora Ferrell Lee, 53, passed away on January 30, 2025, in Elloree, South Carolina, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 19, 1971, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Charles and Earlyse Lee and spent her formative years in Lexington, Kentucky.

Dora was a graduate of Bryan Station High School and furthered her education at Kentucky State University and Walden University, where she earned a Master of Science in Human & Social Sciences. During her career she readily helped and served others through her work with the Lex-Fayette County School System and AmeriCorps. A legacy member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Dora was also the founder of the House of Ruth, a faith-based organization focused on supporting and mentoring women.

Her faith played a central role in her life. A member of the early Emanuel United Church of Christ in Lexington, Dora found great joy in worshiping there and throughout the Lexington community of faith. Sociable in nature, she easily formed many lasting friendships throughout life. Music was another source of solace for her-she especially loved gospel music, with "Jesus is Love" holding a special place in her heart. She was also an enthusiastic sports fan who cheered for the University of Louisville Cardinals and the Florida Gators. Possessing a love for animals, Dora shared joyful times with her dogs, who were a source of comfort especially during her illness.

Dora is survived by her sister, Cheryl McCullum (Robert) of Tallahassee, Florida; her brother, Ronald Neal Jr. of Costa Rica; her niece, Richelle Gentry-Flemons of Illinois; and a great-niece and great-nephew, as well as first cousins, the Stephen Bush Family (Dayton, Ohio), the Gina Richerson-Reeves Family (Washington, D.C.). She also leaves behind a loving and devoted friend, Margo Banks of Elloree, South Carolina, and extended family members, the Mabson Family (Lexington, KY), and the Ramona White Family (Lexington, KY), along with many special and dear friends, neighbors, and community associates.

In honor of Dora's love for animals, donations may be made to the Lexington Humane Society or an organization of choice in her name. May Dora's memory bring comfort in special ways to those who knew her, and may her light continue to shine in the lives she touched.

Dora was a wonderful person, I met her when she would attend Historic St. Paul AME Church. She always had something nice to say and always made me laugh. We kept in touch after she left Lexington, we would have long phone calls. She had told me she was fighting cancer, during our last conversation, even then we would always be laughing. My heart is broken. So glad our paths crossed. Absent from the body, but present with the Lord. Rest my sister-friend. Love you Dora!

Dora could and would accurately quote a Bible verse at any given moment. We often disagreed on the interpretation, but, it was always enlightening! And always about the word, not personalities. REST WITH LOVE, DORA
