Dora Perez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2010.
Dora Ramos Perez Dora Ramos Perez, was a native lifelong Austinite born on November 29, 1936 and died November 6, 2010, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gonzalo "Vito" Perez and Eufemia "Pema" Ramos Perez, brother Joe "Chure" Perez and sister Bertha "Birdie" Perez. She is survived by her siblings Luis Perez, Robert Perez, Frances Perez McNulty (Jim), Eleanor Perez Nunez (Lee), and Barbara Ramos Perez; and her many, most beloved nieces and nephews. She attended Zavala Elementary, Allan Jr. High and Austin High School, served her country in the US Army, and graduated with Honors from the University of Texas. As a young woman she taught at San Jose Catholic School and was later employed by UT and the State of Texas. The eldest daughter of eight children, Dora was lovingly known as "Auntie" to her siblings, their children and grandchildren, and also known as "La Chulita" to her brothers and large extended family and relatives. Dora was like a second mother to us all and a lifelong teacher to her younger siblings, nieces and nephews. To her family and friends, Dora was always a willing listener and supporter in times of need. After a lifetime of hard work Dora was independent and self-reliant, yet lived very modestly, the only exception being the selfless generosity which she lavished on her family. Dora's greatest luxuries were indulging in reading books, avidly following online political news, and selecting educational gifts, books and magazines to give her family, especially the latest crop of nieces and nephews. She was also known to occasionally indulge her sweet tooth by claiming the last piece of apple pie. Although a very shy and dignified lady, Dora relished taking on anyone in an energetic political discussion/debate. Dora was very well-read, cultured and intellectual, but most of all deeply connected to her humble roots, and she had a wicked sense of humor. Dora was committed to many human rights and social justice causes, and loved the fine arts, especially opera and classical music, and Mexican traditional and folk music. Dora will be very missed and cherished in our hearts always. Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Angel Funeral Home, 1600 S. 1st, (512) 441-9738.
